So here I am sitting down to write my first blog post…

I’ve written plenty of notes and messages before now… but mainly to myself. I’ve written down many inspirational or motivational quotes like: “Those who say it can’t be done need to get out of the way of the ones that are doing.” But I’ve never put anything out to the masses. What qualifies me to have a voice for others to follow or even relate to?!

I haven’t experienced everything when it comes to business, but what I have experienced is REAL. On the topic of network marketing…I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of the industry. And lucky for you, I don’t like to sugarcoat things. I’ll give it to you straight.

I got my feet wet back in the early to mid 2000’s with a company known as World Financial Group. I was bit by the freedom bug… time freedom and financial freedom. The Company painted a fantastic picture of being able to work on your own time and earn the big bucks. For me (always a fan of NOT working for the man), I wanted to go out and do something I loved, something that I could “own”… I knew that the harder I worked, the more I could make.

I saw the opportunities were limitless… I was intrigued by what World Financial Group had to offer, and I wanted to learn the ins and outs of their top leaders. I wanted to learn how they got there… I wanted to know their secrets!

Since that first opportunity, I’ve participated in a few others and could write hundreds of pages on everything that I’ve learned in network marketing, but I’m going to narrow it down to one big secret for you, because this industry isn’t easy…

Here’s the secret: The successful simply want it more than everybody else.

Ouch! I know that’s hard to hear… but even as you’re reading this you know it’s true.

What if I told you, you already know what it takes to be successful? That it’s that feeling in your gut… The one that you’re trying to ignore… The one that’s telling you to get into action…to get moving! The secret is to NOT ignore that feeling. To tap into it, and let it guide you.

Now let me tell you another painful fact: The only problem and the only solution that you will ever have in life, is you.

The successful ones out there just refuse to let themselves get in the way. How the heck do they do that? First, they have a routine. They get up in the morning and start their day knowing that they are the key factor in making that day a success.

They have breakfast… Look at and respond to emails… Do their daily scheduling… Follow up with people they have previously talked to… Go to meetings…

Whatever they do… It’s routine. And a solid routine sets the stage for success.

So now, what about the reverse? What are some of the ways you might be getting in the your own way?

Well I can tell you, if you are not sticking to a solid routine, that’s one… Spending hours lost on social media? That’s two… Don’t spend your valuable time looking at other people’s profiles and worrying about the wrong things.

A third time suck? Endlessly checking and responding to emails. Establish a routine where you have a set amount of time in the morning to respond to emails, then move on! It’s these little things that will get in your way… They get in the way of establishing a habit of actionable items that create success.

Lastly, one of the biggest mistakes you can make in your business is forgetting or failing to follow up with prospects. I know it’s hard. I know rejection is scary. But if you let that fear get in your way, it can really hold you back…

Don’t be afraid to hear “No.”

I can promise you right here and now that you’re going to hear “No” more in your life than you will ever hear “Yes.” Once you come to terms with that, you will realize that “No” is just a word… I’m going to say it right now: “No, No, No, No, No”… How do you feel? Are you hurt? Are you still breathing? Good!

Don’t be afraid to talk to people.

The key is to listen! When you follow up with prospects, go in with the mindset of having a real conversation, and not just pitching them your idea. Listen to their wants and needs. The only way to connect with someone is to actually hear what they are saying… Let them tell you what they are looking for. No one likes a one-sided conversation! When you make it all about you, people are going to shut you out.

Without making an honest effort to truly connect, you’re going to hear “No” all day every day.

Ready for some staggering facts about follow up? How about this… Did you know that 50% of people NEVER follow up with a prospect even once? And, another 25% of people fail to follow up a second time! This one will blow your mind… Did you also know that 80% of sales are made between the 5th and 12th follow up? So, out of 4 people trying to make a sale, statistically only 1 will ever have a chance at success!

Be consistent with your follow up game… Add it into your routine, and understood that “No” is just a word. Once you master these ideas, you will significantly improve your business interactions and increase your sales!

I want to offer you something that I use regularly to get out of my own way, especially when it comes to follow up. It’s time to get out of your own way. Stop being afraid of “No” and start following up with those friends, customers, partners and whoever else you can think of that you let fall through the cracks! Start using technology that will notify you about taking the next steps on actionable items.
